Community Service

Community service is not only a part of our motto "Serving our community, serving our Firefighters", but something we see as important and needed. Keeping the Kwanzaa principle of Umojo (Unity) in mind, we enjoy serving our community however we can. We host the Austin Firefighters Ball annually to award the Ed Bridges Scholarship to a deserving citizen to give back. See below a few of the other ways we give back.

Organizations we work with include: The Men of Distinction and Launch Pad, NAACP, the African American Men & Boys Harvest Foundation, and we are a proud chapter of the IABPFF.

Community involvement is very important to us. Some of the programs we have supported to the Austin community involve:

Explorer Scout program

Assisting with voter registration

Neighborhood clean-ups

School supplies for children

Scholarship Programs

Community Assistance programs

School/Community mentor programs

Pass the Torch youth basketball camps and fire academies

Community Health Fairs

Bety Swint and Austin citizen pose after we helped with much needed yard work and trimming

Austin African-American Firefighter Association members help with yard work that could not be done by this Austin citizen on her own or without paying for services. Several of our members met multiple times to help this citizen out. Community service is what our association is all about. Thank you Betty Swint for organizing the assistance.
